Sonnet: A ‘King’ for Now

They chose a ‘king’ to rule their land for now –
A corrupt choice but forced by situation;
He rules the place ‘blind, deaf and mute’ somehow,
Deserving well, some congratulation.

The land has gone to dogs and appears worse–
The welfare of its subjects much ignored;
‘The land is now a mule and not a horse!’
As ministers had slumbered well and snored.

Some future ‘heirs’ seem chosen already;
The common man is poorer than ever;
Land’s corruption is its own enemy;
Its bosses short-sighted are not clever.

The land though fertile raises not a crop,
As farmers get loan–waiver as a sop!
